Why small leaks matter in luxury homes
Villas and apartments in Dubai often use natural stone, timber joinery and concealed pipework. Water travels along these materials before it shows, so by the time a stain appears the damage behind it can be larger. Early repair is almost always cheaper than replacing stone, cabinets or ceiling boards.
A monthly five-minute check
- Open the cabinets under every sink and feel the pipes and the cabinet floor
- Look around the base of toilets and at the concealed cistern panel
- Check behind the dishwasher, washing machine and fridge water line
- Look at ceilings below bathrooms for stains or bubbling paint
- Listen for running water when every tap is off
Use the water meter
With every tap and appliance off, note the reading on your water meter and check it again after an hour. If it has moved, water is escaping somewhere, even if you cannot see it.
When to call a plumber
Call straight away for any ceiling stain, a leak from a concealed cistern, low water pressure that appears suddenly, or a pump that runs when no one is using water. Hidden leaks can be traced without opening large areas of wall.
